And the trivia contest winner is…

Congrats to the winner of our online trivia contest, Ellie Hertzberg! She will be taking home a new iPad mini.

The contest was held in the 25 days leading up to the 25th Annual Meeting, with a new question posted to the homepage every day. Our volunteer attorneys and nonprofit partners were especially encouraged to participate.

Ellie is a sole practitioner specializing in criminal law. She started volunteering with Clearinghouse when we added the Massachusetts Legal Clinic for the Homeless to our list of programs in 1994. She now helps with case review to assist other lawyers at the clinic.

“I enjoy sharing what I know with the attorneys that take the cases.  And I love watching the young attorneys get so excited about what they can do to help the clinic clients,” Ellie said.

She also said that assisting with the legal clinic has yielded surprising results. “I also find that helping at Pine Street has helped me in my practice,” she said. “Many of my clients are indigent and are assigned to me by the court.  I find that what I have learned by doing the clinic helps me better counsel my clients.”

Ellie said her interest in pro bono work goes back many years.

“I have done volunteer work since I was relatively young.  Now I have a skill that can assist low income individuals, and a somewhat flexible schedule, so I try to use my time productively,” she said.

Thanks, Ellie, for all your assistance at the legal clinic! And thanks to everyone who participated in our contest to celebrate our 25th anniversary.
