Dan Winston recently retired from Choate, Hall & Stewart, where he practiced as a partner in their Intellectual Property Litigation group for the last 20 years. Prior to Choate, Dan was a partner at Hill & Barlow and before that briefly an associate at Goodwin Procter. Dan’s intellectual property practice focused on patent infringement, trade secret and licensing litigation on behalf of biotechnology companies, software and hardware developers, and telecommunications providers. Dan also engaged in a wide range of other commercial litigation over 30 years, including environmental litigation, complex contract litigation, business torts and civil rights cases.
Dan received his undergraduate degree in Economics, magna cum laude, from Lafayette College in 1987, and his Doctor of Law degree, with Distinction, from Stanford Law School in 1992. Dan then clerked for the Honorable William G. Young in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Prior to law school, Dan also worked for several years for Accenture, designing and installing computer systems.
As an Access to Justice Fellow, Dan will partner with the Conservation Law Foundation, where he will assist with various strategic litigation. Dan’s first project has been to assist on an environmental justice litigation involving the siting of an electric substation in East Boston. Dan also hopes to become involved in future CLF litigation to help fight climate change.
