The New Overtime Regulations: What Your Nonprofit Needs to Know

In May, the Department of Labor published new regulations that change the rules regarding which employees are eligible for overtime pay. Beginning December 1, 2016, employees who earn less than $913 per week ($47,476 per year) are automatically eligible for overtime pay when they work more than 40 hours a week, regardless of what their job duties are. Only doctors, lawyers, teachers, and a few other classes of employees are not subject to this new rule. In addition, this dollar amount will be automatically adjusted every three years, in order to reflect increases in the cost of living. This new rule could have a significant impact on your nonprofit’s personnel costs.

To help nonprofits understand these new requirements, this seminar will deal with the new overtime regulations. We will review what the new overtime regulations provide and how they will impact your organization; the difference between exempt and non-exempt employees; what counts as work hours for purposes of the regulations; how to determine the a salaried employee’s rate of pay; what steps your organization should be taking to get ready for December 1; and how these changes will impact your responsibilities under other federal and local laws.

This seminar is designed for executive directors, human resource directors, office administrators and other nonprofit staff and volunteers responsible for human resources.
