SUMMARY:Access to Justice Fellows Program Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Event Registration: Please sign up here. \nAnyone interested in participating as an Access to Justice Fellow is invited to attend this information session. A panel of five Fellows will be speaking about their first-hand experiences in the Program and prospective Fellows will have the opportunity to chat with current Fellows and staff about the Program. \nThe Access to Justice Fellows Program\, a project of the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission and the Lawyers Clearinghouse\, enables senior lawyers and retired judges to partner with nonprofit organizations\, courts\, and other public interest entities to increase equal justice for all. SUMMARY:31st Annual Meeting Honoring Chrystal Kornegay
DESCRIPTION:Sponsorship and Tickets\nView sponsorship opportunities here or download the full sponsor packet. Please contact Susan Gedrick by email or at 617.544.3434 ext. 105 with any questions. \nPurchase individual tickets here. Are you a Clearinghouse volunteer? We invite any of our pro bono volunteers and coordinators to attend the event free of charge. Simply choose the volunteer ticket option at checkout.  \nHonoring: Chrystal Kornegay\, Executive Director\, MassHousing\nPlease join the Clearinghouse and event Co-chairs Richard Henken and Timothy Sullivan at Nixon Peabody on June 6 when we gather to honor Chrystal Kornegay\, Executive Director of MassHousing. \nChrystal’s passion for creating projects and programs that result in stronger communities for modest-income working families is evidenced throughout her 20+ years’ experience in community development. Chrystal currently serves as the Executive Director of MassHousing. Before joining MassHousing in February 2018\, she served as the Baker-Polito Administration’s Undersecretary for Housing and Community Development. Prior to that\, she was Urban Edge’s President and Chief Executive Officer and an active member of MACDC. Chrystal brings to state government a deep understanding of affordable housing finance and the nuances of resident-led community development. \nSince entering pubic service\, Chrystal has used her experience\, expertise and tenacity to advance several important priorities. Since FY 2015\, the Baker Administration has increased state capital dollars for affordable housing by almost 18% and worked with the legislature to increase rental subsidies for low income families by 42%. Chrystal has worked collaboratively to launch a $100 million workforce housing initiative; collaborated with partners in state government and the nonprofit sector to dramatically reduce the number of homeless families in motels; launched the Community Scale Housing Initiative; partnered with the Mel King Institute to provide leadership training to resident board commissioners serving on local housing authorities; and worked to streamline and grow the Community Investment Tax Credit program. \nChrystal is a graduate of the Achieving Excellence Program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government\, holds a Master’s Degree in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College. \nThank you to our generous event sponsors!  \n2019 Sponsors to Date\nPlatinum\nKeith Construction\, Inc.\nNixon Peabody LLP\nThe Schochet Companies\nWilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP\nWinnCompanies \nGold\nThe Architectural Team\, Inc.\nBeacon Communities LLC\nBoston Private\nBrown Rudnick LLP\nChoate Hall & Stewart LLP\nDellbrook | JKS\nDLA Piper LLP (US)\nEastern Bank\nMorgan\, Lewis & Bockius LLP\nNolan Sheehan Patten LLP\nNordblom Company\nProskauer Rose LLP\nResidences at Malden Station LLC \nSilver\nCrosspoint Associates\, Inc.\nDechert LLP\nEA Fish Development LLC\nThe Heritage Companies\, Inc.\nKlein Hornig LLP\nMintz\, Levin\, Cohn\, Ferris\, Glovsky and Popeo\, P.C.\nMyra Musicant and Howard Cohen\nNEI General Contracting\, Inc.\nNelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP\nPreservation of Affordable Housing\nRockport Mortgage Corporation\nSullivan & Worcester LLP\nThe Life Initiative\nUBS Financial Services Inc. \nSponsors\nAffirmative Investments\, Inc.\nBoston Scientific Corporation\nThe Bulfinch Companies\, Inc.\nCastle Square Tenants Organization\, Inc.\nConn Kavanaugh Rosenthal Peisch & Ford\, LLP\nEdward M. SUMMARY:The New Overtime Regulations: What Your Nonprofit Needs to Know
DESCRIPTION:Registration: Click here. Please RSVP by November 1. This seminar may be attended in person at DLA Piper or remotely via videocast. \nIn May\, the Department of Labor published new regulations that change the rules regarding which employees are eligible for overtime pay. Beginning December 1\, 2016\, employees who earn less than $913 per week ($47\,476 per year) are automatically eligible for overtime pay when they work more than 40 hours a week\, regardless of what their job duties are. Only doctors\, lawyers\, teachers\, and a few other classes of employees are not subject to this new rule. In addition\, this dollar amount will be automatically adjusted every three years\, in order to reflect increases in the cost of living. This new rule could have a significant impact on your nonprofit’s personnel costs. \nTo help nonprofits understand these new requirements\, this seminar will deal with the new overtime regulations. We will review what the new overtime regulations provide and how they will impact your organization; the difference between exempt and non-exempt employees; what counts as work hours for purposes of the regulations; how to determine the a salaried employee’s rate of pay; what steps your organization should be taking to get ready for December 1; and how these changes will impact your responsibilities under other federal and local laws. \nThis seminar is designed for executive directors\, human resource directors\, office administrators and other nonprofit staff and volunteers responsible for human resources. \nModerator & Speaker: Judith Moldover\, Sr. Staff Attorney\, Lawyers Alliance for New York\nSpeakers: T.R. Kelly\, V.P. & Assistant General Counsel\, Employment Law\, Pfizer; Garrett Kennedy\, Associate Attorney\, DLA Piper LLP (US) \nProgram (all times are Eastern Time)\n12:30 PM Welcome and Opening Remarks\n12:40 PM The Basics of Exempt Versus Non-Exempt Employees\n1:35 PM What Is Compensable Time?\n2:30 PM The New Overtime Regulations and How to Implement Them\n3:20 PM Questions and Answers\n3:30 PM Adjournment \nView the full program booklet below: \n[pdf-embedder url=”https://www.lawyersclearinghouse.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/11092016-Pfizer-Overtime-Seminar-Pamphlet.pdf”]
