Reinhardt\, will lead a lively interactive presentation to help you consider these options and make an informed decision.   \nMission-driven founders of charitable organizations are visionaries. They see unmet needs and are driven to fill them. But decisions must be made on how to best capture the founder’s vision in an effective legal structure. There are several options to consider\, all with advantages and disadvantages\, and all with legal issues to consider: \nFor example\, should they: \n• become a tax exempt nonprofit?\n• work through a “fiscal agent”?\n• merge with an existing nonprofit?\n• become an unincorporated association and trust? \nAdditionally\, existing nonprofits are often asked to become a fiscal agent or take over a newly formed charitable group. SUMMARY:Legal Clinic for the Homeless (Bridge Over Troubled Waters)
DESCRIPTION:The Lawyers Clearinghouse operates free legal clinics throughout the year at a number of area shelters. In order to qualify\, clients must be homeless\, using shelter services\, or otherwise income eligible for free legal services. This week’s clinic will match pro bono attorneys with homeless clients at Bridge seeking legal assistance. \nPlease note: Bridge is a shelter intended for young people who are 18 to 24 years of age. Clients outside of this age range should come to one of our other clinics at the Pine Street Inn\, St. Francis House\, the Medeiros Center\, MBHP\, or the Southampton Shelter. \nClients should sign up in advance if possible by contacting the shelter representative: \nAlex – 617.423.9575 x234 \nClients who are unable to sign up in advance may still attend a clinic. We try to assist with most legal issues but do not take any domestic relations cases (divorce\, custody\, child support\, etc) or represent defendants in criminal trials. \nThe full schedule is available to view and print in English and eight other languages.
