DESCRIPTION:The Lawyers Clearinghouse operates free legal clinics throughout the year at a number of area shelters. In order to qualify\, clients must be homeless\, using shelter services\, or otherwise income eligible for free legal services. This week’s clinic will match pro bono attorneys with homeless clients at Pine Street Inn seeking legal assistance. \nClients should sign up in advance if possible by contacting: \nMen’s Contact: Ken – 617.892.9230\nWomen’s Contact: Catita – 617.892.9301 \nClients who are unable to sign up in advance may still attend a clinic. We try to assist with most legal issues but do not take any domestic relations cases (divorce\, custody\, child support\, etc) or represent defendants in criminal trials. \nThe full schedule is available to view and print in English and eight other languages.

Please sign up for the waitlist. \nLawyers Clearinghouse\, Holland & Knight\, and Exponentum™—a national network of business law pro bono providers—are uniting for a National Day of Service\, with the common goal of serving nonprofits throughout the country. This legal clinic will help local nonprofit organizations assess and improve their governance systems and practices\, with a focus on fiscal governance and financial management.  \nIssues covered will include: \n\nthe role of nonprofit boards in financial oversight;\naudit committee governance;\ninternal financial controls; and\nnonprofit investment policies.   \n\nABOUT THE CLINIC: \nThe legal clinic will begin with a brief training on current fiscal governance issues.  Next\, each participating organization will meet with attorney volunteers assigned to you who will walk you through several questions regarding your current policies and procedures\, in order to flag areas where you may need to make changes. \nAfter this legal clinic\, your organization may request additional assistance from Lawyers Clearinghouse to follow up on legal issues identified in the course of the attorney consultation.  \nWHO SHOULD ATTEND:   \nA board member\, executive director\, or senior manager of your organization.
