Howie Silverman

Howie Silverman has been retired since the end of 2018 after 34 years of practice as an immigration lawyer. He specialized primarily in family immigration, naturalization, waivers, asylum and immigration court proceedings. He also spoke on immigration law panels and workshops nationally.

As a member of the New England chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association’s (AILA), Howie previously served as Chapter Chair, co-liaison to the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations, ICE Homeland Security Investigations, Office of Chief Counsel, and Executive Office for Immigration Review. He also had served as Vice-Chair of AILA’s National ICE Liaison Committee, AILA’s Interagency Committee and the Board of Directors of the American Immigration Council.

Howie received the PAIR Project Mentor of the Year Award three times for his volunteer work supervising pro bono attorneys representing political asylum applicants. He was listed in The Best Lawyers in America and was named the Best Lawyers’ 2014 and 2017 Boston Immigration Law “Lawyer of the Year.”

As an Access to Justice Fellow, Howie will volunteer with Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS), working in the Immigration Unit on behalf of immigrants seeking asylum and relief from removal.
