My name is Hilary Vaught and I am the new Communications Coordinator for the Lawyers Clearinghouse. I thought it would be nice to introduce myself and discuss my role as I continue the work started by our last coordinator, Holly Hartung.
I graduated from Northeastern University in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and a minor in sociology. As an undergrad, I completed two six-month internships, first at the State Library of Massachusetts, and later at the Massachusetts State Archives. After graduation, I worked on an independent project involving the preservation of historical letters from the 1930s and 40s.
Outside of my professional experiences, I am an avid photographer. Often I can be found wandering the city, camera in hand, snapping photos of Boston’s many interesting neighborhoods and hidden gardens. I also enjoy furthering my knowledge of politics, science and history by reading articles, blogs, and a lot of non-fiction.
My college coursework, a combination of classes related to writing and social issues, strengthened my enthusiasm for social justice and inspired me to pursue work at an organization where the employees are passionate about seeking positive and lasting change; Lawyers Clearinghouse is such an organization. The Clearinghouse has long been recognized for its work with nonprofits and the underserved. As the Communications Coordinator, my job is to spread the Clearinghouse’s message, making us more visible and accessible to those involved with nonprofits, the legal profession and the community at large. I will be running the Clearinghouse’s website, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook accounts, while also writing the quarterly newsletter.
Moving forward, I would like to feature more lawyers, law firms and nonprofits on our website. These spotlights will allow us to showcase some of the people and organizations that have worked with the Clearinghouse over the past 25 years. If you would like to discuss being featured in a spotlight post, please email me at the address below.
I am very excited to be working at the Clearinghouse with such a dedicated group of individuals. I look forward to communicating our mission as we continue to work with the legal community to support nonprofits and homeless individuals.
