Stephen Crivellaro first contacted the Lawyers Clearinghouse CORI Sealing & Expungement Clinic in 2022. He was seeking assistance sealing the criminal record that had burdened him for over 16 years, leading to difficulties finding housing and accessing certain job opportunities.
A father of two, Stephen wanted to turn his life around and didn’t want his criminal record to hold him back from becoming the person he wanted to be.
Stephen researched services that could assist with record sealing and found the CORI Clinic, where he was connected with a volunteer legal advocate from Mintz. With his volunteer’s help, they were able to sift through Stephen’s record and, in a matter of months, his CORI was sealed.
Stephen had been searching for a new apartment while awaiting confirmation of the sealing. He found a condo, but the landlord wanted to conduct a background check. Right before they conducted the check, Stephen got word that his record was successfully sealed.
“Had I not had my CORI sealed, I wouldn’t be living in the beautiful condo that I am today,” said Stephen. “That was actually one of the most amazing things that came from this. It was instantaneous.”
