Joseph E. Mullaney III

Prior to his retirement, Joseph E. Mullaney III enjoyed successful careers as an investment banker on Wall Street, a nationally recognized securities lawyer at some of the country’s most respected law firms, and most recently a senior healthcare executive.  Upon graduation from law school Joe was initially an associate at Skadden Arps, later a junior partner at what is now WilmerHale, and a senior partner at the law firm Mintz Levin. During the course of his legal career he successfully represented numerous corporations as well as investment banks in the software, Internet services, media, telecommunications and biotechnology fields. Prior to attending law school Joe held several senior positions in investment banking and syndication on Wall Street. 

Joe has been an adjunct professor at Boston College Law School, Northeastern School of Law and Vermont Law School.

Involved throughout his career in leadership positions for numerous civic and charitable organizations, Joe served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Boston Municipal Research Bureau and Bridge Over Troubled Waters. He is the former chairman of the Board of Directors of ARTS/Boston, and has served as a trustee or overseer of Access Boston, the Ballet Theatre of Boston, the Boston Bar Foundation, the Boston Medical Center, the Huntington Theatre Company and the Park Street Corporation. He was a founding member of the board of the Boston Collegiate Charter School, and served for several years as a director of the Vinfen Corporation, a not-for-profit provider of services for people with mental disabilities. Most recently Joe founded the Watuppa Boat Club, a not-for-profit that provides moderate and low-income high school students the opportunity to row crew in order to enhance their college opportunities.

Joe is a graduate of the Belmont Hill School. He went on to receive a B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross, and later a J.D. degree, cum laude, from Boston College Law School, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. He resides on a small farm in Westport Harbor, MA where he continues to provide assistance to local charitable ventures.

As an Access to Justice Fellow, Joe will partner with Lawyers Clearinghouse to support its pro bono programs serving Massachusetts nonprofits and people in need, and will take on pro bono cases through the Clearinghouse’s Nonprofit Legal Referral Program.
