Lawyers Clearinghouse Legal Clinic for the Homeless BU Public Service Fellowship Application

The Lawyers Clearinghouse connects pro bono lawyers with nonprofits and people in need to promote access to justice, strengthen communities, and end homelessness. We are small, dedicated group of attorneys looking for a Fellow with a sense of humor, a solid work ethic, a willingness to ask questions and learn, and a passion for helping people in need. Experience with poverty law or program management is a plus but is not required.

Through our Legal Clinic for the Homeless program, we serve approximately 200 homeless and very low-income clients each year by providing them with pro bono legal assistance that removes barriers to escaping homelessness and that improves lives. Our staff and volunteer attorneys help clinic clients with a range of civil issues, the most common of which involve housing, social security benefits, criminal record (CORI) sealing, and immigration.

Students are invited to apply to work with the Legal Clinic Director to:

(a) Assist in running the legal clinics, which take place every other week at eight different shelter locations in Boston;
(b) Provide direct legal services to clinic clients;
(c) Advise and support our large group of volunteer attorneys;
(d) Compile and update training materials; and
(e) Collect, monitor, and analyze data on case outcomes.

Interested students should forward a cover letter and resume to Legal Clinic Director Mia Friedman at mfriedman@lawyersclearinghouse.org.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Please call 618-778-2082 with any questions.
