Mary Rose Scozzafava

Mary Rose Scozzafava was a partner of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP (WilmerHale) and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property department, where she specialized in patent advice and patent portfolio building for renewable energy clients in the fields of solar, energy storage, and biofuel. While at WilmerHale, she also provided pro bono services through the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and assisted veterans seeking military discharge upgrades in collaboration with the Veterans Legal Clinic of Harvard Law School. She previously worked at Choate Hall & Stewart LLP and Clark+Elbing LLP. Mary Rose holds a BS from Lehigh University and a PhD from Brandeis University, both in chemistry. She graduated magna cum laude from Suffolk Law School. 

Mary Rose currently supports sustainable agriculture and the local food economy in her roles on the executive committee of Lexington Community Farm, the oldest continuously farmed property in Lexington, MA, and as a member of the conservation restriction oversight committee of the Citizens for Lexington Conservation. She is also on the board of Rubia Handworks, an organization providing economic empowerment to women in Afghanistan and Mali. 

For her Access to Justice Fellows project, Mary Rose will be working with the Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) in the Food and Farm group. Mary Rose will be developing educational resources and training for the Legal Food Hub, a service launched to provide pro bono legal assistance to farmers and food entrepreneurs. She will also investigate the impact of recent federal agriculture and food safety legislations on the local food system. CLF protects New England’s environment for the benefit of all people, using the law, science, and the market to create solutions that preserve our natural resources, build healthy communities, and sustain a vibrant economy.
