PRESS RELEASE: Mintz to Receive the Lawyers Clearinghouse Pro Bono Excellence Award

Mintz to Receive the Lawyers Clearinghouse Pro Bono Excellence Award
Boston-based law firm recognized for commitment to serving communities in need.

BOSTON—Legal services nonprofit Lawyers Clearinghouse has selected Mintz as the recipient of its 2020 Pro Bono Excellence Award, in recognition of the firm’s longstanding dedication to pro bono service. The award will be formally presented to Mintz at the Clearinghouse’s 32nd Annual Meeting on September 24.

The Clearinghouse chose to honor Mintz this year after over two decades of partnership, during which the firm has: staffed numerous legal clinics to provide civil legal assistance to homeless and very-low income individuals and families; helped create a model for engaging more in-house attorneys in pro bono; collaborated with the Clearinghouse on the Clinic in a Box program; and conceived of the Access to Justice Fellows Program–now operated by the Clearinghouse–which the firm continues to fervently support.

“This award is long overdue and Mintz is so deserving,” said Clearinghouse Executive Director Maribeth Perry. “We’re truly grateful to Mintz for everything the firm has done over the years to support our work. The firm’s belief in us, and the commitment of the Mintz attorneys who have volunteered with us, has enabled the Clearinghouse to grow and thrive while effectively serving nonprofits and people in need.”

Created to acknowledge the contributions of the Clearinghouse’s pro bono volunteers, the Pro Bono Excellence Award is presented annually to legal professionals, law firms, or in-house departments that go above and beyond for their community. Last year, the Clearinghouse presented the award to Jim Kelleher, Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Officer at Liberty Mutual Group.
